"A Reassuring Strangeness" is a nod to the uncanny, a Freudian concept associated with the cinema of David Lynch, who passed away on January 22nd. It is a tribute to this unusual artist, with his reassuring and affectionate good nature, who was a follower of transcendental meditation and deeply committed, through his foundation, to educational projects for children.

The exhibition presents a collection of works that resonate with certain themes developed by David Lynch. They were not created in connection with his world, but they contain particularities inherent to his protean artistic work."

This carte blanche presents the work of 17 artists whose works resonate with the work of filmmaker David Lynch.

💖 On this occasion, discover the new works of Julie Giraud and Anna Boulanger.

Julie Giraud

“Julie Giraud: American adolescence is one of David Lynch’s favorite themes. He is particularly interested in it for its dark and carefree side. Drugs, alcohol, incest, and sex form the ingredients of a secret, nocturnal world present in the films and TV series Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet. Julie Giraud creates “cinematic” paintings depicting teenage girls frozen in intermediary spaces. These pictorial snapshots encourage us to imagine the rest of the scenarios. Like frozen time, the artist invites us to immerse ourselves in the world of adolescence, a unique, elusive and mysterious society.”

Icarus Toussaint (Anna Boulanger)

“Or Nemo Smith, Octave Noé, Théo Grijs, Paul Weiss, Basil Andersen, Uriel Fogg… Anna Boulanger's artistic work addresses many of the same themes that David Lynch explored in his films. The forest and its secrets, incest, animality, the night, the landscape, intimate territory, and cartography. Unlike the filmmaker, who conveys these subjects with violence, cruelty, and irony, she addresses them with poetry and sensitivity. By adopting the codes of comics or children's books, and through meticulous and elegant drawings, she paradoxically illustrates a brutal and indifferent society.”
